Quite often, because of a variety of reasons, researching families can be difficult due to surname confusion. A very good example of this was two John's in Taranaki/Wanganui. John DONAGHY 47th & 2/18th Regiments and John DANAHY 57th. For some reason the sons of John DONAGHY used the DANAHY name. This was a problem for member J G. It took years for her to resolve the issue. Newspaper reporting in some cases added to the confusion. An example of this was the reporting of the death of John DONAGHY' s son John as John DANAHAY, son of John DANAHAY of the 57th. He died in the home of Robert and Ellen BLYTHE. Ellen was his sister and definately the daughter of John DONAGHY. Thank you J G for contacting us and providing details making sure our database is accurate.
